Institutions of ACS

Round Table: Abbottabad Conservation Strategy envisaged the creation of a District Conservation Round Table to facilitate the planing process of ACS, which in turn is for the promotion of sustainable development of natural resources and the preservation of the living environment and matters related to it. An Abbottabad Conservation Strategy Round Table (ACS-RT) was constituted in February 1998. The ACS-RT has drawn upon representatives of all the stakeholders i.e. Local NGOs and CBOs, Government’s social sector Departments, Local politicians and public figures in the District, Government and private individuals involved in the process of development, Donor funded projects in the district, Media, Academia and Business interests and private sector. The Deputy Commissioner is the convener of the ACS-RT.

Mandate of ACS Round Table:

The ACS Round Table has the following mandate:

• Act as an intellectual resource for the formulation of a District Conservation Strategy for Abbottabad to be known as the Abbottabad Conservation Strategy (ACS);

• Collaborate with all relevant stakeholders in the development of the ACS, within the context of SPCS;

• Guide and advise the adoption and implementation of the ACS by the stakeholders;

• Guide and advise for procurement of internal and external funds for implementation of the ACS;

• Monitor and oversee the implementation and impact of the strategy and to feedback the lessons learnt for improvement in sub-sectoral strategies;

• Provide a neutral platform for discussion among stakeholders and for resolving any conflict among them;

• Contribute towards good governance and democratization of development by interfacing the process of public policy making and implementation with input from the civil society;

• Ensure objective assessment of the relevant processes by the increased awareness and promote and communicate the ACS to the relevant constituencies in Abbottabad, the provincial and Federal governments, media and the donor community;

• Provide a platform where all efforts towards improving social, economic and political conditions of the people can be coordinated for increased impact; and · Do all such activities conducive to the achievements of the above objectives.

• April 30, 1998;

• May 12, 1998; and

• October 30, 2000.

• ACS Steering Committee:

In order to provide day-to-day guidance and to facilitate the work of the ACS, a Steering Committee headed by the Deputy Commissioner and comprising of selected members of ACS Round Table was constituted. ACS Steering Committee was also notified in January 1998.

Mandate of ACS Steering Committee:

The ACS Steering Committee has the following mandate:

• Facilitate the work related to the formulation of the Abbottabad Conservation Strategy and

• Guide and monitor the progress of the IUCN-ACS Support Unit
