Corporation (PTDC).
Infrastructure:
The PTDC’s role in the development of tourism infrastructure is to concentrate on opening up those areas which have a tremendous potential but where the private sector is reluctant to venture.
Primarily the PTDC has concentrated in developing small motels in the Northern Areas of Pakistan; NWFP; near and around the historical and Archaeological Sites that are away from major cities, and on major tourist routes such as the Karakoram highway. These projects have enlarged the tourism potential of the country as such:
Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation Limited is a public limited company set up in 1970.
Objectives:
To develop tourism infrastructure on an all Pakistan basis.
To act as an agent on behalf of the Federal Government for the production of tourist literature and publicity of tourism at home and abroad.
To act as a catalyst in order to encourage the private sector to play a more active role in tourism development.
To undertake tour operations and provide ground handling facilities for group tours.
Main Functions of PTDC
The PTDC has an administrative set-up which includes the followings:-
A Planning & Development Wing/Engineering Department to undertake identification and implementation of projects dealing with tourism infrastructure such as Motels, Recreational units, Resorts etc.
The Publicity & Promotion / Marketing Department which undertakes the production of tourist literature and domestic / foreign publicity.
PTDC Motels Ltd., which undertakes the management of all hospitality units operated by the PTDC in various tourist destinations of the country.
Pakistan Tours Limited, which provides ground handling and transport facilities for international and domestic groups.
